Salute from the Shore 2012

It’s a 3-peat with a nice twist! Back for the third year, Salute from the Shore is a spectacular, patriotic tribute from South Carolina to our troops. This year, veterans will be honored as well!

Salute from the Shore 2012 will happen on Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4, when beach goers from Little River to Hilton Head Island will wave American flags as four F-16 fighter jets from Shaw Air Force Base fly the length of the South Carolina coast!

Here at DeBordieu, everyone is asked to wear red, white and blue, as we wave a huge 30 x 60 ft. flag on the beach in front of the DeBordieu Beach Club. Here's a video from last year's Salute from the Shore.

The  Air Force F-16s are flown by the 79th Fighter Squadron, “The Flying Tigers,” of the 20th Fighter Wing, stationed at Shaw Air Force Base. According to John Michael Otis, president of the Salute effort,   “this squadron was part of the last U.S. Armed Forces in Iraq. They flew air support while the ground forces closed the gates behind them, so we’re very honored to have them involved.”

But don’t stop waving when the planes fly over, because this year, following the jets, will be some private World War II aircraft, with several  veterans on board. They will start at about the same spot, and go from North Myrtle Beach to about Charleston or Folly Beach, depending on how far their fuel with stretch.

Here’s the approximate Salute from the Shore schedule:
·         North Myrtle Beach: 1:01 p.m.
·         Surfside Beach: 1:05 p.m.
·         Pawley’s Island: 1:08 p.m.
·         Isle of Palms: 1:18 p.m.
·         Folly Beach: 1:20 p.m.
·         Edisto Island: 1:25 p.m.
·         Hilton Head: 1:29 p.m.
