Pawleys Area's Best "Low-Brow" Restaurants featured in Nat Geo Traveler!

I'm always so quick to recommend the obviously fabulous"high-brow" Pawleys Island and Georgetown restaurants to my clients, like Frank's, Bistro, and The Rice Paddy. So I was delighted when I read the recommendations made by National Geographic Traveler's creative director, Jerry Sealy, when he visited the Pawleys Island area recently.
Topping his list of the best places to find great Low Country food at dirt cheap prices, is Hog Heaven, one of my husband's favorites, on the south end of Pawleys Island, about a mile or so north of DeBordieu's gate.  My favorite breakfast spot, Litchfield Restaurant  made it to Mr. Sealy's list, as did the "the Tuna," in Georgetown.

Kiawah's Ocean Course & DeBordieu

With all eyes on Kiawah for this week's PGA Championship Golf Tournament, I thought it might be fun to compare the Ocean Course with DeBordieu Club's private course. Both are Pete Dye courses, and both are absolutely gorgeous. I invited DeBordieu's Head Golf Professional, Shawn Roper, to make the comparison.

"Comparing the similarities of the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island SC and the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown SC is a relatively easy task. The Pete Dye (Kiawah) and the Pete & P.B. Dye (DeBordieu) designs share a number of similarities.
Both were designed in the mid to late eighties in coastal developments in South Carolina. The layouts are both links designs with elements like waste areas, pot bunkers, dune like hills and an abundance of water. Both layouts share wide forgiving fairways, small protected greens, and ever present winds that alter the playing environment on a day to day basis. One of the obvious visual similarities is the railroad ties and bulk heads that have become a staple in Dye’s championship venues. Obviously, the Ocean Course was designed to be a test to the highest level of golfers, with the course stretching out over 7,800 yards and with its proximity to the ocean golfers are subject to more penalizing playing conditions. DeBordieu, more of a subtle test, still challenges most at over 7,200 yards from the Back Tees, while guiding you through and abundance of oaks, pines and ever present wildlife."
Thanks Shawn!

PGA Family Course Program comes to DeBordieu Club

New tees for seniors, kids, beginners encourage family golf outings!
Lot 21, View of 17th Tee, $278,000
DeBordieu Club is excited to announce that it now features the PGA Family Course.
The program, which was launched in a partnership with the PGA of America and U.S. Kids Golf, gives families the chance to play golf at DeBordieu Club in a non-intimidating environment.
Lot 6, View of 6th tee, $199,000

The PGA Family Course Program enables DeBordieu Club to turn the regulation golf course into a "short course" experience through the use of PGA Family Tee Markers. The Family Course Tee Markers are set at yardages that allow golfers to reach greens in regulation, shoot lower scores, play in less time and most importantly, have fun.
Lot 10, View of #9, $299,000

"The traditional golf course setup is not conducive to families enjoying the game together, because most regulation golf holes are far too long for kids and beginners, " said Dan Van Horn, Founder and CEO of U.S. Kids Golf. "We're delighted that DeBordieu Club has adopted the Family Course Program to make the golf experience more inviting for the whole family."

Lot 291, View of #10, $298,000
The introduction of shorter, family-friendly courses coincides with Play Golf America's Family Golf Month and Get Golf Ready initiatives, both of which are designed to make the transition into the game easy for golfers of all ages.
DeBordieu Club becomes one of more than 1,400 golf courses nationwide that have installed the PGA Family Course.

Please tryout the DeBordieu Family Courses. Scorecards are located in the golf shop and are in the starter building. The wooded tee markers have been removed and replaced with the markers shown above. The tee markers are in the fairway adjacent to the course indicator marker on the cart paths.
Lot 68, View of #5, $198,000

DeBordieu HOT Deal of the Week!

Heads UP Nature Lovers!
This 4BR, 4.5 bath Lowcountry Home is located on almost an acre lot adjacent to DeBordieu’s nature preserve that backs up to Hobcaw Barony’s 17,000 acres of land that’s been put in a trust for education and research. (Nice neighbors!)

Solid ICF construction, reinforced with ribar, offers the beauty of a stucco look, with the stability, comfort, low maintenance and low energy bills of concrete.

The first floor of this 3490 htd. sq. ft. home offers a beautiful Foyer, Dining area, Kitchen with Wall oven, Granite Countertops, & wet bar with icemaker, Family room, Master suite, Laundry room, Powder room, and spacious Screened Porch.

Upstairs offers two bedroom suites, each with their own bath, built-in shelves, and window seats, separated by a den.

Over the 3 car garage is the spacious 4th bedroom suite with its own bath. The pickled cypress walls in the main living areas give this charming home a rustic, beach cottage quality.

One other thing I really like about this house, is that the driveway is hidden from the street, so you could keep your boat parked back there and the ARB would never know…. Unless, of course, they read my blog. Which they don’t. At least I don’t think they do…….(oops).

August 7 is National Lighthouse Day!

“It was on this day in 1789, that Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouse, beacons, buoys and public piers. In Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the Act and the commissioning of the first Federal lighthouse, Congress passed a resolution which designated August 7, 1989 as National Lighthouse Day.”

Among the many area attractions for DeBordieu owners and their guests is a boat trip to the Georgetown Lighthouse. Whether you launch your boat from the DeBordieu Community Boat Landing, or choose to take a ride on the Carolina Rover, it’s a memorable trip that I highly recommend.

DeBordieu, 2 hours north of Kiawah

DeBordieu is tucked away in a very private, secluded setting, but at the same time, convenient to some of the most appealing cities and attractions in South Carolina.
DeBordeu is about two hours north of Kiawah Island, this week's home to the 2012 PGA Championship Golf Tournament.
The charming communities of Pawleys Island and historic Georgetown are only a few minutes away and provide all the necessities of life, including one of the best hospitals in the state.
Exciting and vibrant, Myrtle Beach is about 45 minutes north, also offering an amazing array of dining establishments, shopping, amusement parks, nightlife, live entertainment theatres and more than 100 championship golf courses.
Between these two very different coastal cities lie quiet fishing villages, pristine beaches, a national forest and seashore, dozens of antebellum plantations, the largest outdoor sculpture garden in America and most importantly,DeBordieu!
Getting here is easy. DeBordieu is located on Highway 17, just three miles north of the historic port of Georgetown and five miles south of Pawleys Island, and within easy driving distance are the commercial airports of Charleston and Myrtle Beach. The Georgetown County airport accommodates private aircraft.
There has never been a better time to purchase property at DeBordieu.

Once Through the Private Gates.....

"Once through the private gates, you quickly realize you have entered a community that is completely dedicated to preserving the beautiful canvas nature has provided.

Elegant homes, exceptional amenities and some of South Carolina's most beautiful coastal scenery come together to set the framework for a community of exceptional standards.

The rhythm of the ocean. Gentle waves stirring cool ocean breezes. An egret poised on the banks of a peaceful marsh. A feeling of calm is inescapable. It is a pace that compliments the natural beauty of the 2,700 acres that are DeBordieu.

For generations, families have embraced this quietly tucked away community as a place to reconnect. From traditional oyster roasts, elegant dinner dances and Friday evening mixers to a wide variety of clubs and holiday festivities, social activities are designed to enhance DeBordieu's innate sense of community."
Come see for yourself.

What's Cookin' at DeBordieu?

In some DeBordieu kitchens, it’s not just dinner!
Many homeowners in this private oceanfront golf community just south of Pawleys Island, South Carolina are finding that devoting a small space in their kitchen area to do everything from manage their household finances to actually work from home is convenient and very practical.
Others prefer the having a separate room for their home offices. And some, like the owners at 79 Sweet Grass actually have both; a small office right off the kitchen, and a full office on the mezzanine level of the home.
The important issues to think about when considering office space in the kitchen are mainly storage, tolerance for clutter, and efficiency.  Some find that creating a visual boundary between the office and kitchen will help owners increase their productivity. A column or a half wall could be all you need. I must confess, in my kitchen office, I get so caught up tweeting, pinning and posting that sometimes I forget to even start dinner. LOL
Other important things to remember when planning office space in a kitchen include adequate power outlets, proper lighting, appropriate flooring, and cabinetry for special needs like filing cabinets and pull out shelves.

The views from some of the DeBordieu home offices pictured on this page are spectacular. And they are all on the market. Click on the pictures to link to more information about the home and a virtual tour.

Realtors Welcome!

I love working with buyer clients referred to DeBordieu by realtors in the local Pawleys and Myrtle Beach areas, or beyond! As a member of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World network, I’m also looking forward to sending referrals to other areas of the country.
Just yesterday, I was asked by a local realtor exactly what was the best way to do business at DeBordieu. One thing is for certain, we want to “roll out the red carpet” and welcome realtors who have buyer clients who wish to consider a purchase in this gorgeous place. The photos shown here are of DeBordieu properties sold so far this year that involved a Pawleys Island area realtor, and for which, I am very grateful!

HOW IT WORKS: If a realtor who is a member of the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors physically brings their buyer client to DeBordieu the first time, walks them in the door of the sales office, just once, their company will get a full co-broke commission on the buyers side of the transaction, provided they have a buyer agency agreement with the buyer. If they are too swamped to accompany the buyer, just by picking up the phone, registering the buyer, and sending them to DeBordieu, it’s a 25% referral fee of the buyers side. Either way, we will take it from there, whether it takes 5 days or 5 years….when they buy, that realtor will be covered. The 25% referral fee is also available to a realtor from outside of our MLS area, as was the case when a realtor from Charlotte, NC referred a DeBordieu lot buyer to me not long ago.

WHO TO CALL: To make plans to come, and to set showing appointments, only one DCRE agent needs to be called. The agent can call me, Troi Kaz, at 843-455-4523, (thank you very much) or call one of my fellow sales executives at the office, 843-546-4176. The important thing is that the referring agent get quick answers and excellent service.

WHEN TO CALL: As soon as the agent has a buyer client interested in DeBordieu, it’s best to call and register them. All we need is the name and hometown. That way, if they visit the website and begin gathering information, the referring agent is protected.

THE DOG AND PONY SHOW: I wish I had some scientific research to back this up….all I can offer is personal experience, but I can tell you that the more time a potential buyer spends hearing about DeBordieu’s development philosophy and history in the real estate office while looking at all of our pictures and maps, the higher the probability is of that person buying here… and the more significant their investment. We encourage agents to USE US! It’s what we’re here for, and it’s all we do. If a buyer doesn’t have time for at least a 5- minute dog and pony show, it’s been my experience that they won’t buy in here anyway.

Again, we want to make sure that everyone knows that we love transacting business at DeBordieu with outside realtors. We want to make it easy and lucrative! Please let me know if you have any questions.
There has never been a better time to consider purchasing property at DeBordieu!

DeBordieu Golf, "An 18-Stop Nature Tour"

Pete Dye and his son, P.B. Dye, designed a beauty at DeBordieu, the private beach front golf community just north of Charleston, South Carolina.

Golf at DeBordieu can be described as an exhilarating 18-stop nature tour. In fact, I had a real estate client last year who called his wife and said, "Honey, I've found the perfect spot! It's a private golf course in the middle of a nature preserve!" He bought a house that day, and is living happily ever after.

The Dye's designed a challenging, but playable course that meanders through the stunning marshland of DeBordieu and is defined by its signature 17th hole - voted "number one" on the Grand Strand.

The pictures on this page of some of the golf holes at DeBordieu. They are linked to the lot listings on that hole. Click the pictures for more information about each property.

A Creek Runs Through It

DeBordieu is a truly unique oceanfront community located just north of Charleston, South Carolina featuring private golf and tennis, saltwater creek access to the ocean, a manned security gate, and luxury homes and villas surrounded by hundreds of acres of wildlife and nature preserves.
One of the most wonderful features DeBordieu offers is access to North Inlet, via the private boat landing available to DeBordieu property owners. Because of this boat landing, DeBordieu residents do not necessarily have to live right on the creek to enjoy boating and fishing in one of North America’s most pristine estuaries.
Now, if you would like to keep your boat in the creek behind your back yard, DeBordieu has a number of properties available that would allow you to do just that. Please click on the picture of the homes featured here for more details, or visit www.DeBordieu.com for a complete list of creek front homes.
Legend has it that when the Marquis de Lafayette made his South Carolina land fall on North Island during the American Revolution, and gazed upon creeks and marshlands of what is now DeBordieu, he was so enthralled by the natural beauty, he proclaimed that it must surely be the “borderland of God”, D’abord Dieu.
Come see DeBordieu for yourself. Call 843-455-4523, or email TroiKaz@DeBordieu.com

Local Restaurant Review - Alfresco

In addition to the fine dining and casual grills DeBordieu offers its members and guests, we’re so lucky to be just 4 miles from downtown Georgetown, SC, where there are quite a few wonderful restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Today, I met a friend for lunch at a spot I had never heard of before….. ALFRESCO, a fairly new 28-seat bistro on Front Street.

Chef Eddys Chacon leads the culinary team at Alfresco with his wife, sous-chef Lisa Chacon. It’s a small, intimate place with very nice décor.

My friend and I tried the Goat Cheese Truffles for starters, which were great (and really cute), but I’m going for the Teriyaki Chicken Lettuce Wrap next time.

We both had salads, she had the California Cob, and I had the Tenderloin Cob. Both were excellent! I can’t wait to go back!

Alfresco Georgetown Bistro is located at 812 Front St. in Georgetown. The number is (843) 344-3869. It is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Lunch is served until 3 p.m., and early dining specials are available from 3-5 p.m.

Happy Independence Day!

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.
You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.” ~ Erma Bombeck

Happy Independence Day!
