Congrats to the Golf Winners at DeBordieu!
According to DeBordieu Club Head Golf Professional , Shawn Roper,
“EGA= EXCITING GOLF ACTION” and that’s just what we had at last weekend at the 2010 DeBordieu Club Championship & President's Cup Tournament. Here’s Shawn’s report:
FRIDAY
The Ladies Division of the Club Championship started on Friday with a semi-finals match pitting Jennifer Currie against Marty White. This match went the distance and was decided on the 18th with Currie winning 2up.
The Men's Division Championship Flight had some great first round matches:
Defending Champion David English held off David Bruce for a 7 and 6 win;

Carl Fisher edged Marion Moore for a 4 and 3 win; Our Senior Champ, Steve Milligan defeated Mike Andrews for 4 and 3 win; Scott Edwards held off John Miller and won the match 1 up on the 18th.
The Men's 1st Flight of the Club Championship also saw great matches: Peter Roy outlasted Johnny Rowell for a 1up win on 18; Danny Aderholt held off Greg Currie for a 3 and 2 win; George Wilson defeated Randy Habeck for a 6 and 4 win.
SATURDAY
The sun rose Saturday morning and brought his friend "the Wind" to the golf course. The Men's and Ladies' Championship Flight saw great matches none the less.
The Ladies played the finals on this day, pitting Defending Champions Peggy Clary versus Jennifer Currie. Clary flew out of the gates, took a big lead and held on for a 6 and 5 win. Congratulations to our 2010 Ladies Club Champion - Peggy Clary.
In the Men's Semi's, David English was firing on all cylinders as he took care of Dr. Carl Fisher 6 and 5. In the other semi-final, we saw a re-match of the Senior Club Championship from September, Steve Milligan versus Scott Edwards. History did not repeat itself as Edwards edged Milligan 2 and 1.
The Men's First Flight Semi saw George Wilson fire 35 on the front to take a huge lead on his way to a 9 and 8 win over Danny Aderholt.
Day 1 of the 2010 Ladies' Presidents Cup saw tuff conditions yet pretty good scoring. Peggy Dellasega took the day 1 lead with a net 72 followed by Carol McCann with 73 and Jody Bennett with 76.
Scores from Day 1 in Men's President Cup were close. Dick McCann and Phil Dellasega were tied with net 73's, Dr. Kent McGinley with 74, and Don Henry, Lou Cervini, and Bill Cowan all tied with 75's.
SUNDAY
Mother Nature brought us perfect conditions today (minus the flying blood suckers).
In the Finals of the Men's Club Championship was Defending Champion David English versus Scott Edwards. Edwards made the turn with a 1up lead but bogeys on 10 and 13 turned the match. English made solid pars at 14 and 16 giving him the lead he needed to finish off Edwards 3 and 1. Congratulations to our 2010 Men's Club Champion - David English
The Men's 1st Flight Finals included Peter Roy and George Wilson. Their match was back and forth and all square thru 14. Wilson's birdie 3 on #15 halted Roy's momentum, and the match finished 2 and 1. Congratulations to our 2010 Men's 1st Flight Champion - George Wilson.
Day 2 of the Presidents Cup saw much better scoring. In the Ladies Division, Peggy Dellasega held off Carol McCann(149) and others to take the title, finishing with a 2 day total of 147. Dick McCann followed a solid net 73 with a fantastic 68 (141) to take the Men's title over Phil Dellasega (148)

CREEK NIGHT! One of the most fun annual events at DeBordieu, Thursday's Creek Night, was a huge success.
Residents of this coastal community just south of Pawleys Island, South Carolina come together once a year at the Club’s Pavilion Rec Center to savor oysters, shrimp, flounder and a host of other delicious dishes prepared by one another. These seafood delights come straight out of one of DeBordieu’s most beautiful, natural amenities, North Inlet, home to some of the tastiest fish around!
You don’t have to live right on DeBordieu’s creek to enjoy fishing in North Inlet, the DeBordieu Community Boat Landing gives boat access to all owners at DeBordieu Colony.

Open Floor Plans at DeBordieu

Keep an Open……Floorplan!
OK…..so some of you don’t necessarily want a formal dining room when considering the purchase of a home at DeBordieu, just south of Pawleys Island, South Carolina. You would rather have the kitchen open to the dining room, and even open to the living room. Why is that?

Well, some people enjoy the inviting and airy feel to a home that an open floor plan at DeBordieu provides. They feel more comfortable, and a greater sense of freedom.

Others find that the open space appears to have more square footage than it actually does, which makes it a great selling point for many homes at DeBordieu.

I often talk to cooks who feel that unless they are cooking in a setting with an open floor plan, they feel as though they are left out of the socializing…..stuck back in the kitchen while others have all the fun. Having the space open to the other rooms allows for others to include the cook in conversations!

We’ve come a long way from the rigid architecture of the past, when formality took precedence over function. Back then, the living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens each had their own separate quarters.

Dining Rooms at DeBordieu: Formal or Informal?
I’ve heard some folks say that they think the Formal Dining Room is on the way out. All evidence to the contrary at DeBordieu, just south of Pawleys Island, South Carolina! According to many potential buyers at DeBordieu, THE FORMAL DINING ROOM IS HERE TO STAY! If you’re in the market for a home, you might really want to think twice about whether you want a formal dining room or not. Let’s consider some of the advantages.

Many traditionalists enjoy a more formal style of entertaining where the meal is prepared in the privacy of the kitchen until it is presented to the diners in the Formal Dining Room. After dinner, the dishes can be cleared to the kitchen for clean up while the diners stay at the table and enjoy after-dinner treats and conversation without the sights and sounds of the clean-up effort.

Preserving the use of heirloom furniture is also a popular reason for the desire to have a Formal Dining Room. Most of the time, the Formal Dining Room is found in the front of the home, near the entrance. Having your most treasured and valuable furniture on display as you greet guests into your home can be very rewarding.

Whether or not you use the Formal Dining Room for dining, it’s something to consider for resale purposes. If you have a potential buyer that wants a Formal Dining Room, and you don’t have one to offer….you cut yourself short. However, if you have a Formal Dining Room but are using it as an office, den, or study, the picture can be painted for your prospective purchaser to convert it back to a Formal Dining Room down the road.
